Only two weeks left at the Dallas Museum of Art...(the art of Jacques-Louis David)

The Dallas Museum of Art is hosting a collection through October 26th, Mind's Eye: Masterworks from David to Cezzane that features art from Jacques-Louis David.  He painted the Napoleon painting everyone has seen. Everyone knows his work, but you probably didn't remember his name.

She showed me her room, isn't it good Norwegian wood (the woodcarvings of Ugo da Carpi)

There isn't much to say.  Early print required illustrations and chiaroscuro woodcut fit the bill.  Ugo da Carpi was one of the first.  The last carving is listed with the Library of Congress.

Maybe it's not Deviant Art...Art from Pixiv (Google Translate recommended :) )

The modern world enjoys inexpensive calories, inexpensive music, and inexpensive visual art...Buzzfeed introduced me to a social network site (http://www.pixiv.net/) for artists in Japan in the vein of Deviant Art (http://www.deviantart.com).

The illustrations are from K, Kinehara (http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=158395).

I seem to be on an illustrator fetish, but I will move away from that for the rest of the week.

More Baroque musings...this time Flemish! (the art of Michael (or Michiel) Sweerts)

Yesterday's Baroque offerings got me looking at other painters from the period.  While a fan of Rembrandt, I had never heard of Sweerts before yesterday - so here are some offerings.

You only illustrate twice...(the art of Robert McGinnis)

Probably one of the funniest things about doing this art a day project is finding out who created and crafted some of the art that influenced my life.

Today is artwork from Robert McGinnis.
