"(insert the epic guitar solo from Yes's "Starship Troopers" here)" (the art of Roger Dean)

One of my favorite artists, Roger Dean.

Today's musical selection comes from Yes - the guitar solo from "Starship Troopers"

Roger's link on Wikipedia and the link to his website.

I was fascinated by his work with album covers and and the stylings from Heavy Metal. I am a child of the 1970s and 1980s and his work hits that cord of within me. I like curves and an otherworldly-ness.

My 12 year old self fell in love...and I have never fallen out.

"What do you do with a drunken whaler . . . " (the art of Jean-Baptiste Regnault)

Today's musical selection comes from the game Dishonored, "Drunken Whaler."

Which brings us to today's artist, Jean-Baptiste Regnault who started his life as a sailor. The Athenaeum has a list of twenty-four of his works. He is a new artist for me. (http://www.the-athenaeum.org/art/list.php?m=a&s=tu&aid=5414)

NSFW "I can be your everything . . ." (the art of the Marquis de Sade)

Today's musical selection is "Whore" by In This Moment

Dealing with Enlightenment thinkers, and both de Sade and Jean-Jacques Rosseau came up since both are from the same period.

The comparisons of their philosophies definitely highlights the problem with using Reason.  From murder via passion to cold morality and social contract, I am not sure the viewpoints could be more starkly contrasted.

"O Fortuna velut luna statu variabilis . . ." (the art of Fortune)

Today's selection is driven mostly by my musical selection, a remix of "O Fortuna" by Apotheosis

A little something about Fortuna from Wikipedia. While Caravaggio's "The Fortune Teller" isn't Fortuna directly, I felt it was a fitting addition.

“We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.” (the art of hyperrealism)

The musical selection for today is DJ Orkidea's version of "Time" by Hans Zimmer.

The quote for today's art comes from Jean Baudrillard.

Today's art is from Marilyn Minter. (Her website)

"I am flattered by your fascination with me . . ." (the art of the birth of Venus)

Today's music selection is Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited."

The intersection of love, desire, jealousy, and hatred, frightening and fascinating, the emotions of passion evoke dread, wonder, and a longing to be filled with them.
